Training Programmes / Workshops / Seminars / Consultations

Dear Friends,

The Training-Seminar-Workshop Brochure 2013-2014 presents in a nutshell some of the programmes envisaged by the Indian Social Institute for this year. These programmes have been planned in keeping with the emerging issues and national scenario in focus. The main objective of these programmes is to provide opportunity in terms of capacity building, leadership formation and creating critical consciousness, especially among those engaged in rural reconstruction, development in favour of the excluded and the marginalised. These programmes are intended to create leadership among people in the urban as well as rural areas, so that they can guide and lead those millions who have no voice, or whose voice is not heard in their attempt to attain justice and freedom. Some of the programmes are directly focusing on imparting basic legal knowledge so that the marginalised section of people could be empowered to defend their rights.

Thus enhancing the capacity of the common masses in terms of creating awareness, augmenting their participation in decision making processes, critically questioning the prevalent development paradigm of the planners and searching for alternatives would be the key features of these programmes. Today these issues have become very important for NGOs, CBOs, partner agencies, and all those who are looking for alternatives to expedite the envisioned dream of the Constitution, viz., ‘to secure to all its citizens: Justice, Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity.'

Today training programmes, workshops, seminars, consultations have become the medium through which information is passed on, data is presented, opinions are shared, view points are expressed, and alternatives are explored. Those who are involved in the reconstruction process for a better tomorrow, especially for the excluded and the marginalised, are the beneficiaries of these programmes. Some of the programmes are directly initiated by the Institute, while others are designed in collaborative partnership with NGOs. It is earnestly hoped that these programmes would enhance the objectives that we have in mind.

It is our earnest desire that you would take advantage of these programmes and improve upon the quality of participation, so that the envisaged objective is achieved in a very substantial manner

Dr. A. Joseph Xavier
Executive Director
