JRDS, New Delhi, is organizing a 6-day training course in Hindi on “Empowering Women to Lead Change” from 17th  to 23rd  November, 2018 (starting at 08.30 a.m. on 17th   and ending at 4.00 p.m. on 23rd November) at Indian Social Institute, 10, Institutional Area, Lodi Road, New Delhi-110 003.
Women empowerment is not possible unless women empower themselves. ‘Empowering women to lead change’ is designed to bring about a positive change to enable women to face any difficult situation and to participate in the process of decision making. The underpinning rationale of this course is to impart legal awareness to women to promote leadership and to lead change in the society. The course will also apprise them of the latest legislative developments and judicial pronouncements on women’s rights.
Participants for this course are chosen mostly from NGOs, CBOs and others who are working especially for the empowerment of women in rural and urban villages in India.

Objectives: The main objectives of the programme are:

  • Creating leadership among women to lead change.
  • Imparting legal knowledge so that they could be empowered to defend their rights

Methodology: The training programme will be conducted by qualified and eminent persons in the field of law and legal practice. The emphasis is on imparting knowledge through discussion, case study, documentary films, interactions and meetings with advocates, social activists, and visits to some  National Commissions, etc.

Topics: This course will cover the following topics:

  • Women and the Constitution: Fundamental rights, Writ remedies, voting rights for women, Women’s participation in Local Governance.
  • Women & Criminal Laws: Law of rape, offences of dowry, Human trafficking, molestation, rights of women arrestee and procedural aspects connected with filing of cases.
  • Women & Family Laws: Laws of marriage, divorce, maintenance, adoption, right to property and succession.
  • In addition, specific laws relating to women namely, Domestic Violence Act 2005, Sexual Harassment of Women at Work Place, Human Rights Act, Food Security Act 2013, Maternity Benefit Act, Criminal Amendment Act,   etc.

  • Developing women leadership
  • Empowering  women to defend their rights
