Department of Tribal Studies

Department of Tribal Studies (DTS) takes up research studies, capacity-building activities and publication on issues and problems pertaining to scheduled tribes in central and north India. These issues and problems are related to tribal rights,Tribal Sub Plan (TSP), displacement, migration, education, land alienation, identity, inclusion of the marginalized sections of the society and constitutional provisions for scheduled tribes, etc. In 2016-17 the thrust of DTS’ engagement with Tribals has been on tribal rights and development and the implementation of Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) in Jharkhand. DTS also collaborates with like-minded organizations which promote and protect tribal rights and identity.

Implementation of Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) in Jharkhand

Implementation of Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) in Jharkhand is the first phase of DTS in its engagement in the thrust area of its research plan in eight schedules states. DTS prepared interview schedule, obtained block-wise, village-wise and scheme-wise information through RTI about the TSP beneficiaries in four districts (Lohardaga, Chaibasa, Hazaribagh and Dhanbad) of Jharkhand and finally completed the field work.Now the data entry, data analysis and report writing is underway. TSP Project aims to study the allocation of the resources, implementation and outcome of TSP for the development of tribals and propose a better alternative for an integrated development of tribals.
